Despite all the talk about how competitive the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club season opener would be, reigning Group 4 champion Kevin Jeffrey, Canadian Super Bike ace Kevin Graham and Trinidadian Ravi Singh dominated the proceedings yesterday, at the newly resurfaced South Dakota Circuit.
Jeffrey, who enjoyed pole position throughout the day, captured two races, before retiring for the day, while Graham recorded a similar amount of wins, but crashed out in the final Super bike race of the day after a collision with Guyana’s Carlos Rodrigues that allowed local champion Stephen Vieira to register his only triumph of the Meet.
Trinidadian Singh was in dominant mood as he won all three races in the Group 3 category, while Nickhel Seereram of Extreme Motor Sports came away with two wins and Stanley Ming jnr one in the three Shifter karts races.
Fierce sibling rivalry between brothers Raj Singh and Chet Singh for the top podium spot was witnessed and the connection ensured that they finished one-two in all three of the group 2A races.
Chet Singh got the upper hand of his brother in the first two races, beating him to the chequered flag down the final stretch, but Raj Singh executed his revenge in the final race when he was the first across the finish line.
Other notable drivers in group 2A were Aaron Bethune, who finished third in the first and final race of the category and Rafeek Khan, who took the third spot in the second race.
Meanwhile, Raymond Mohamed ruled the circuit in the final two races of Group 2B after the first was won by Marcel Profitt.
