Gloria Barahina Guevara, a 39-year-old was on Friday refused bail by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry when the woman appeared on two counts of uttering forged Spanish passports to Guyana’s immigration authority.
It is alleged that on March 26, at Ogle Airport, East Bank Demerara, the accused uttered to an immigration officer, a forged Spanish passport in the name Martha Victoria Balareio with her photo inserted therein.
The prosecution further alleged that on March 29, at Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, the accused uttered to an immigration officer a forged Spanish passport number ACC557562 in the name of Maria Victoria Balareio with her photo inserted therein.
To the charges she pleaded not guilty.
The court provided the accused with an interpreter. When asked about her presence in Guyana, Guevara said through her interpreter that she was here to see the country.
She also related that she was renting a house but could not remember where it is located.
Corporal Venetta Pindar, who was prosecuting in the matter, objected to bail on the grounds that the accused have no fix place of aboard and if allowed bail she might not return for her trial.
Magistrate Beharry denied the accused bail. The matter which was committed at Ogle Airport was transferred to the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court for April 8. The other matter was fixed for a second hearing on April 4, at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
