The Georgetown Reading and Research Centre (GRRC) will be opening its biggest and longest ever book sale today, at what will be considered its permanent home, “Bookland” at Critchlow Campus, Woolford Avenue, as well as at its popular Waterloo Street site.
The event ends on May 28. Director of the GRRC, Rupert Hopkinson yesterday said that more than 200,000 books will be on sale at a 10% to 90% discount. Referring to the 38,000 sq. ft “Bookland” as the realization of a dream, he informed that when it is completed it will have a larger library, a bookstore, an 1,800 sq.ft Gazebo, a lawn tennis court and several benabs for social and intellectual activities.
Hopkinson said that “Bookland” will be the GRRC’s permanent book fest site and is being prepared for displays of more than 500,000 books at upcoming annual book festivals. It will be the venue for a three-day event for the Easter season, dubbed “Easter at Bookland”. He said Saturday, April 23, will be a grand book fair, with the following day being a “Cook up” competition, followed by a fun day on Easter Monday (April 25) at Bookland’s Children Park..
Hopkinson said that the full purchase price for each ticket will be given back as credits to patrons to buy books.
