The Horticultural Society of Guyana held its 29th annual show at the Umana Yana yesterday. The event is set to conclude today.
The show was first held in 1982, and in 1990 it moved from the St. Roses High School auditorium to the Umana Yana, said Yolanda Vasconcellos, who is the Treasurer of the Horticultural Society.
Inside the benab there was a Horticulture competition, which was divided into 22 classes, while outside there were booths that had Horticulture essentials on sale.
The classes included Floral Arrangements, Floral Fantasies, Garlands and Swags, Miniature Arrangement, Petite Arrangement and even a children class for those under 16 years.
The competition was judged at 7: 00 hrs and the respective top three winners for the various classes had their pieces up for display the entire day.
The award ceremony is set for today at 17:00 hrs. The trophies have been donated by, Digicel, which even had a booth that offered great cell phone deals on sale. Some of the other exhibition booths included Caribbean Chemicals, Stihl, The Horticultural Society of Guyana and the National Parks Commission.
Today the pieces will be up on display until 17:00 hrs when the awards ceremony commences.
