Guyana’s national table tennis team is currently competing against Suriname and French Guiana in a tri-nation tournament in Suriname after departing Thursday.
Edinho Lewis; Nigel Bryan; Joel Alleyne; Hewley Griffith; Denzel Duff; Brando Baldie; Jamal Duff; Sunil Logan; Stephan Corlette with Natalie Cummings, the lone female player, comprised the
national team that left for the development series.
National Coach, Linden Johnson and Patrick Triumph were named as the Manager/Coach and Assistant Manager/Coach respectively, for the tour.
The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) said that the assignment is being used to resuscitate and develop the sport in Suriname while acting as litmus test for the inclusion of the sport in the Inter-Guiana Games.
The tournament comes on the heels of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Suriname and Guyana for technical cooperation and assistance from Guyana to help develop the sport in Suriname.
The GTTA has already assisted the Suriname with garnering assistance for the acquisition of 10 table tennis boards, soliciting the International Table Tennis Federation’s support with hosting development courses for coaches, accessing equipment grants and reintroducing Suriname to the Caribbean and Regional Table Tennis Federation.
