The search for 31-year-old sugar industry worker Vishanand Lall, of Enterprise, East Coast Demerara, came to a sad end yesterday, when his body was found floating in a trench near where he reportedly fell while making his way home last Sunday.
It was late in the afternoon when residents discovered Lall’s remains.
One of Lall‘s friends told police that the two of them left work together and headed to the Travery sideline to wash off their skin that was adulterated with abeer and abrack from Phagwah celebrations. The friend claims that Lall plunged into the water and never surfaced. He added that he and some others thoroughly searched the area where Lall plunged in but this was to no avail.
Lall, who worked fulltime as an excavator operator at GuySuCo, and also worked privately as a mechanic, was last seen by his wife Reshanti and three-year-old daughter, just before he left home for work on Sunday.
“He put on he white clothes because he said he will play phagwah at his work place,” the man’s wife said.
However he never returned home that afternoon, and the family received a telephone call that he had jumped into the trench and it was feared that he may have drowned. Their worst fears were confirmed yesterday.
