Escorted by law enforcement ranks, murder accused Bibi Gopaul and Jarvis Small called ‘Barry’ made yet another appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for the continuation of the preliminary inquiry (PI) into the killing of 16-year-old Neesa Lalita Gopaul.
Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry is hearing the matter.
Attorney at-law Vic Puran who is representing Bibi Gopaul was absent yesterday, nevertheless the PI went on. The other lawyers, senior counsel Bernard De Santos, Pamela De Santos and Mishka Puran were in attendance.
Fabricator of certain exhibits which were tendered into evidence, Brian Samaroo, was scheduled to continue being cross-examined by senior counsel De Santos yesterday but unfortunately the witness was absent. State-appointed prosecutor Pretima Kissoon told the court that Samaroo was ill.
At the commencement of yesterday’s hearing, police Lance Corporal Jermain Laundry, who is attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Alberttown Police Station, was called by Kissoon to the witness stand.
Subsequent to Laundry swearing to his evidence, he was examined by prosecutor Kissoon. The proceedings saw several exhibits being tendered into evidence.
As the witness recounted the role he played in the murder investigations, the deceased teen’s mother Bibi Gopaul, who was seated apart from Jarvis Small in the prisoners’ dock, was seen sobbing bitterly.

Magistrate Beharry granted permission. The PI was adjourned until April 7.
On the previous occasion senior counsel Bernard De Santos had accused Brian Samaroo of lying within his evidence.
The police are alleging that sometime during the months of September and October 2010, Jarvis Small and Bibi Gopaul murdered Gopaul’s 16 year-old daughter, Neesa Gopaul. Small who is a gym instructor and the lover of Bibi Gopaul.
Neesa Gopaul went missing on September 23, 2010, and a report was made at the Leonora Police Station by her mother two days later, on September 25.
The body with the head bashed in beyond recognition was found at the Emerald Towers Resort, on the Soesdyke/ Linden Highway on October 2. The disfigured corpse was found stuffed in a large suitcase that was dumped into the Madewini Creek. Certain articles found in the suitcase, led to the arrest of the two suspects. They were later charged with murder.
Those who have already testified in the matter are Lance Corporal Anoudh Bissoon, Jennifer Sumrah, Keisha Douglas, policeman Joel David, and ASP Terrance Paul.
