After a report on what appeared to be an amoured vehicle parked on top of several containers at the Guyana National Shipping Corporation Limited (GNSC) on Lombard Street, a Russian company, Major Miners Inc. has come forward to claim the vehicle.
The mining company described the vehicle as an all-terrain amphibious vehicle from Russia.
According to the Director of Major Miners Inc., Alexey Maslcwskiy, the company has a Prospecting Licence and does geological exploration work in Cuyuni area. He said that several months ago the company ordered an all-terrain vehicle from Russia.
He described the vehicle as an all-weather amphibious vehicle which is specially designed for geological expeditions working in remote areas with poor access roads or in their absence.
The director further said that on the day the company was informed of the vehicle on the wharf in Georgetown, mining personnel were going to start official clearance procedures.
However, “We could see a big photo of the vehicle on the limit page of your newspaper. It was the first encounter with our vehicle (named GAZ 34039), actually. Previously we only had a possibility to watch it in the web-site of the manufacturer (www.z.gt.ru).”
Adding that such vehicles really proved to be irreplaceable for people who had to work in difficult terrain like in Guyana, the director of the Mining Company said that the vehicle would be useful in Guyana on geological discoveries and could put Guyana into higher places in world mineral rankings, while bringing more investments and create more working places.
“I wanted to inform the readers that this vehicle is not for military use. In Russia even double application equipment needs to undergo a lot of complicated procedures to be exported.
“For this one there is no special requirement (like for a truck). It is not armed, it is not armored, it does not have any features to carry weapons. Yes, it may have aggressive appearance, but, please, believe us, it has a peaceful and kind character and is made for civilian use,” the director of Major Miners Inc. Alexey Maslcwskiy said.
