A Golden Grove Secondary School teacher says that the Education Ministry officials should not be baffled about how a stranger easily infiltrated the school administration. Those officials are responsible.
The teacher stated that the school is often visited by Ministry of Education officials, at least six times a year she said.
The teacher, who demanded anonymity, stated that whenever the Ministry of Education sends officials to monitor the school, the individuals seldom provide any documentation to verify their identity.
She further stated that whenever the officials come, the Ministry never calls to inform anyone and this, she says, is maybe a strategy to document wrongdoings and to catch the head teacher off-guard.
Although, turning up out of the blue is a good strategy by the Ministry when monitoring schools, she reiterated the fact that neither these inspectors, the Ministry of Education, nor the District Education Office for Region Four at Triumph, East Coast Demerara hardly ever sends any notifications to inform the school of upcoming inspections.
Hence, the presence of a white collar claiming to be a Ministry of Education officer sent to inspect the school is monotonous, and the teachers hardly ever ask questions.
However, never has an inspector or a District Regional Officer (DEO) been at the school for so long and even make changes in protocol and administering corporal punishment at the school.
The man who the teacher is now saying is a “trickster”, rather than a “mad man”, had been at the school from March 1, and it took them almost two weeks to finally seek verification of the man.
The man identified himself as David DeSantos and had told the headmistress of the school that he was the Region Two District Education Officer and that he was sent by Chief Education Officer (CEO) Olato Sam to perform monitoring duties.
The presence of a Region Two DEO at the Region Four school didn’t seem peculiar enough for the headmistress, Ms. Loreen Lynch, to seek verification from the Ministry of Education of such an odd assignment.
The teacher with whom Kaieteur News spoke said that another reason they didn’t question the presence of the stranger was because the Ministry was constantly changing protocol.
Another telling factor that triggered embarrassment for the schools administration was the fact that during the man’s two-week reign, the District Education Officer along with an inspection team from the Ministry of Education was at the school and they were even seen as to be consulting with the man.
The man who have given the authorities at the Cove and John “C” Division Police Headquarters three different names is presently incarcerated there and is expected to appear before the Cove and John Magistrate court as soon as investigation are completed.
The principal of the school, Loreen Lynch, was said to be in talks with the authorities at the “C” Division headquarters as part of the ongoing investigations.
