Another Topco Juices one-day Rapid Chess tournament is fixed for Monday March 21, 2011, a national holiday, at the Kei-Shar’s Sports Club, Hadfield Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown.
Registration begins at 09:00hrs and the competition starts one hour later.
The Swiss System tournament consists of eight rounds with a time limit of 40 minutes per game.
The tournament is open to all male and female chess players in both the senior and junior categories.
Tournament fee for senior non-members is $800.00 and juniors $600.00, while senior members will pay $300.00 and junior members $200.
Trophies and cash prizes are at stake. A special prize will be presented to the top junior player who is able to checkmate or win his or her opponent in the shortest game of the tournament.
DDL Brand Executive Alexis Crawford yesterday presented the cheque for sponsorship to Treasurer of the Guyana Chess Federation Shiv Nandalall at the tournament venue. She observed that chess is a small but growing sport and she is encouraging other companies to aid the development of the game.
It is the second one-day rapid chess tournament being sponsored by DDL this year.
Nandalall thanked the DDL Executive for maintaining her company’s support, noting that the Federation is always planning competitions with the objective of allowing players to test their skills regularly and the partnership with sponsors is always welcome.
Interested players can contact Irshad Mohamed on 664 1650 or Shiv Nandalall on 225 8270 during office hours for further details.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
