As of next month, persons who were not registered during the last Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) National Registration Exercise will be allowed to do so.
According to Vishnu Persaud, Public Relations Officer of GECOM, the claims and objections process will commence on April 4 and conclude on May 20. This process will see the publishing of the list of persons who were registered and are eligible to vote. Persaud explained that if a person does not see their name on that list then that person can subsequently be registered.
He also disclosed that the commission has begun training for temporary staff who will be working during the election period.
In addition, GECOM is currently putting together its work plan for the election, but is awaiting the date to be announced by the Head of State, before making certain definitive decisions and pronouncements. Persaud said that they are anticipating a date in the latter part of August.
