The Mayor and City Council continues to enforce laws pertaining to obstruction of sidewalks and pathways and Tuesday, the popular Stretch Your Dollar Store was targeted.
Under the supervision of City Constables, representatives from the city council removed a substantial amount of goods that were being sold outside the Robb Street store.
This came to the shock of many bystanders because the store had been showcasing and selling items outside the store for a quite a few years now.
The action also caused fireworks between the proprietor of the establishment and the driver of the M&CC vehicle that was hauling away the confiscated items.
The driver of the vehicle became infuriated because of the proprietor’s arrogant behaviour. He kept telling the proprietor that it wasn’t him that was taking away his stuff.
The driver, who declined to disclose his name, said that people always behave as though he is voluntarily confiscating their goods when all he is doing is following the instructions of his boss.
City Constabulary Inspector Lambert said that the there were numerous instances when the establishment ( Stretch Your Dollar Store ) was issued warnings to refrain from using the sidewalk to sell and showcase goods, in the process obstructing pedestrians.
The inspector said that the charge that would be issued is Obstruction and that whoever comes to claim the goods would be issued with the charge, since the proprietor of the store wouldn’t be necessarily be the violator in this case.
He further stated that anyone vending on sidewalks and alternately obstructing persons from passing through hassle free can be fined and their goods confiscated.
