As police continue their investigations following the discovery of a man whose battered body was found at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, it has been confirmed that the man was murdered.
According to a police source a post mortem examination revealed that he died as a result of blunt trauma to the head. The battered body of Rishi Persaud, 36, called “Web or Spider” of Lot 12 Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, was found in the bush corner of Esau Street, Land of Canaan, early Saturday morning.
Residents in the area had told this publication that the body was discovered at sunrise, and that there were marks of violence. It was also noted that blood was oozing from the ears, eyes and mouth.
According to Ron Persaud, a brother of the dead man, he last saw his brother alive at 19:00hrs on Friday when his brother asked for money to buy an aerated beverage.
He said that he could not think of anyone who was an enemy of his brother and who would want to harm him in anyway.
Residents agreed that the now dead man was an alcoholic who would do odd jobs in the neighbourhood to survive; however, he was not a violent man.
