Dear Editor,
The eyes of everyone are focused on the shining light of Guyana’s premier political party with President Bharrat Jagdeo being its torch bearer for the last 12 years.
The time has now come for him to hand over the baton. Popular journalist, Malcolm Muggeridge (1903-1990) once wrote, “Few men of action have been able to make a graceful exit at the appropriate time”.
The name of the next trailblazer is soon to be announced, and it is very understandable that because the PPP is awash with men and women of indomitable character, many of them would appreciate the acceptance of his or her own offer to pilot the ship of our state.
However, while only one person could be chosen to turn that steering wheel, people generally sometimes create problems by wavering in the trust of their own judgment as to where their decision should finally stand.
But on this issue, I am sure that if only the PPP members look around their own dedicated lot, they will concede that it is with their very own unfettered support and approval that the General Secretary of the Party, Mr. Donald Ramotar stood on the centre stage to keep the flying colours of the Party’s Flag aloft through the long trying period of its history.
Mr. Ramotar has not only been a member of the PPP, but he has also been a very active member in the PYO for over four decades, and he tirelessly worked directly in the Party at different levels as he travelled the rough terrain of our political landscape to ascend the ladder to his present office.
He has throughout the years been in direct contact with the Party groups as well as the grass roots of many communities throughout the country, whereby his on-hands experience proved invaluable for the political forwardness of our beloved country.
Apart from those experiences, each and everyone in contact with him can attest to his honesty and humility, and so I think that consciences have to be suffered by persons if they conclude that Mr. Donald Ramotar has not already won the ‘silent election’ as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Progressive Party.
