Burglars staged a daring daylight robbery yesterday at the Parfait Harmonie, West Bank Demerara house occupied by former Army Major Augustus Stuart, carting of a large amount of cash.
Augustus Stuart said he had $750,000 in a brief case because he intended to pay for construction materials later in the day.
However, he had to leave to keep an appointment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, so he secured the money in a briefcase and locked his room and house around 10:15 hrs. When he returned in the afternoon, his house was ransacked and the money was gone.
Stuart was “taking care” of the house at 612 Parfait Harmonie, along with his wife, while he built his own house in the very housing scheme.
To enter the yard, the bandits broke the two padlocks from the gate and then pried open the front door.
They also forced open the doors to the rooms, ransacking them. Stuart’s cash was secured in a briefcase, which the bandits managed to ripped into. They also ransacked the other rooms and escaped with a 42-inch flat screen TV.
The matter has been reported to the La Grange Police Station. Stuart said that the Police told them not to touch anything until they returned today to do their investigation, which would include lifting fingerprints.
At press time, Stuart was wondering where he would now sleep, given that his house was ransacked and that the Police instructed him not to “trouble” anything until they returned.
