After returning from church, a family of five discovered that bandits drilled a hole into their concrete home at Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo and ransacked the house, carrying away an undisclosed sum of cash and jewelery.
At the scene of the robbery there were a 4”x4” plank of wood and two shirts outside the hole that was made in the building, along with three window panes, which were removed by the thieves.
According to businessman Abdul Goberdhan, he and his family left for church around 10:00 hrs and when they returned home after 12:30 hrs, he discovered that a room in the house was ransacked.
Upon closer inspection, he saw a hole in the wall of one of the bedrooms.
He explained that it appears as if the bandits used the cloth on the plank to absorb the sound while boring their way into the side of the house, since they apparently tried with the window panes but were unable to get pass the grill.
Goberdhan said that after enquiring from one of the neighbours if she heard or saw anything, he was told that the sounds were heard but it was taken for sounds that were coming from buildings that were under construction.
Goberdhan said that this is the third time he has been robbed.
“I applied to the Commissioner of Police for a firearm but was never given permission to have one. I am being targeted. How do I defend my business and family?”
He said after making contact with the police at the Leonora Police Station, ranks came and took statements and dusted for fingerprints.
A Tuschen resident for the past two years, Goberdhan said there has be an escalation of break and enter in the area, and it appears as if it is one gang that is responsible for the robberies.
