“Why should a man seek a house in God’s mansion if he can’t offer someone a place in his house?” asked Assistant Chief Probation Officer Gavin Munroe. Munroe was delivering the feature presentation yesterday at the Bright Horizon Children’s Home dorm project inauguration ceremony.
He was speaking in the absence of the Minister of Human Resource and Social Security, Priya Manickchand, at the Bright Horizon Children Home Newtown settlement Kuru Kururu.
Food for the Poor Guyana Inc yesterday hosted the inauguration ceremony for the new $7.1 million dorm.
The bright Horizon Dormitory Project commenced on April 16, 2010 and was completed in November. The project was funded by Food for the Poor.
The dormitory project was executed “with a difference”. It was done home style. The building was decorated and furnished like a home. There are six rooms.
Monroe, quoting from the Bible, “In my father’s house there are many mansions.” He said that there is always a need to make a positive impact in someone’s life. He applauded Food for the Poor for its vision.
Providing a home, a safe and comfortable environment for children, is a significant gesture, said Munroe.
The man disclosed that the Ministry of Human Services had, on numerous occasions, made referrals to Food for the Poor and in most cases the company has positively responded.
The probation officer said that the $7.1 million building is more than a symbol; it is one that represents the promising fact that love and kindness still dwell among humanity. The man explained that it is not an easy task to live without a mother or father and dwell in a society that does not care. Therefore, “we must let them know that society care”.
Executive Director of Food for the Poor, Leon Davis, said that he is always pleased to be associated with the improvement in the lives of less fortunate individuals especially children. Davis said that every time something is done for the children of Guyana it is a message to them that there are people who care about them.
Davis acknowledged two youths in the gathering. They were in the home since they were babies. The man cited projects that Food for the Poor started for the children, among them a poultry project.
Davis said that he is “preparing them to be good citizens of Guyana”.
The children of the home showcased their appreciation in song and dance. “I am a promise to be everything God wants me to be” was just one line of the song the children used to serenade the audience.
