– woman still trying to recruit students
Some of the victims of the recent ‘medical school’ scam have disclosed that they plan to take the head of the bogus school to court to force her to return their fees.
Some of them revealed that they have approached the Guyana Legal Aid Clinic to get an attorney to fight their case.
The students disclosed that they have to return on March 3 to find out if they be able to retain a lawyer.
Meanwhile, Kaieteur News has confirmed that
the head of the ‘school,’ who goes by many other aliases, is still attempting to recruit students, although Health Minister Dr Leslie Ramsammy has stated that she is not accredited.
After receiving this information, a Kaieteur News reporter contacted the head of the ‘school’ by telephone and indicated that she wanted to enroll in the school.
The woman told the reporter the registration fee was $4,500 and students had to pay $7,500 monthly, and indicated that classes started in March.
She also claimed to be accredited under the National Accreditation Council.
Being told that the ‘student’ only had a Grade Three pass in Integrated Science and a Grade Two in Social Studies, the woman nevertheless encouraged the ‘student’ to enroll.
Just last year, the same woman swindled several students and only refunded some of them after being exposed. Some of the victims enrolled in the ‘classes’ even after being fleeced before.
This time around, though, the students vowed not to take things lightly.
“I don’t know what me uncle gon say because he use to send the money for me to pay she every month”; one student said.
“I left my job cause I wanted to elevate me self and look how I end up; I ain’t know what to do now cause I lost the iguana and the cutlass,” another student said.
The Health Ministry says it intends to have some of the students enrolled in a “patient care activity program”.
Minister of Health Dr. Leslie Ramsammy disclosed that about 50 students will be benefiting from this initiative.
According to Ramsammy, those who perform well will be allowed to move to higher levels. The Minister said that most of the students will be employed at his Ministry and GPHC pending successful completion of the program.
In addition, the Ministry of Labor Human services and Social Security will give all the students involved, a monthly stipend of GYD $4000.
