Government has announced that there will be a new three km access road leading to Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
Engineering co-ordinator, Leon Goring, yesterday told Kaieteur News that the new access road to be constructed will start from Timehri Police Station and will end a little before the entrance to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
The road he described is said to be a two-lane road, which will be constructed parallel to the existing road heading towards the airport. He said that the new road will only be used as an exit, and the existing road will be used as an entrance to Guyana’s international airport.
He further noted that in order to use the existing roadway to travel to the airport the road surface has to be improved. There has to be the overlaying of the existing roadway, installation of new lights, construction of concrete drains along roadways, news signs and painting of pedestrian crossings and reconstruction of pavements.
Mr. Goring added that the tentative estimate budgeted for the job is $800 million.
