…suppliers complain of lack of transparency, unfairness
The procurement of drugs and medical equipment for which two bids were opened on Tuesday at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board was never advertised.
This newspaper was informed that some suppliers are now questioning the transparency, accountability and fairness of projects undertaken by the Ministry of health.
On Tuesday when the bids were opened the disparity between the two bids was alarming.
The bids were from New Guyana Pharmaceutical Company whose bid was $348, 212,085 and Medpharm whose bid was $13,292,300.
Suppliers insist that the invitation to bid on the project was never published in any of the dailies or the www.eprocure.com website.
That company with the higher bid sued this newspaper last year twice in a matter of days as it relates to a letter speaking about the supply of drugs by the company.
The letter spoke to the manner in which drugs were procured and supplied to the Ministry of Health and the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation prior to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was signed with QAII and Go Invest.
That MoU was signed between Dr Ranjisinghi “Bobby” Ramroop the Chairman of QAII and Geoffrey Da Silva for Chief Executive Officer for the Guyana Office for Investment in March 2008.
