– as Nedd upsets Chelsea Edghill
The emergence of new table tennis champions continued late Saturday night when Akeicia Nedd defeated 2010 Caribbean Champion and Junior Sportswoman of the Year, Chelsea Edghill in the Under-18 Girls’ final of the Mashramani Table Tennis (TT) contest.
Following the emergence of Kyle Edghill, who is the brother of Chelsea, and Priscilla Greaves in the U-13 categories earlier in the day when they won their first major titles, Nedd joined the new table tennis champions with her 11-7, 7-11, 7-11, 11-8 and 11-9 win.
The victory for Nedd was nothing short of phenomenal given the complete dominance of Edghill in the sport over the last year and a half. Edghill was restricted to the U-15 title, which she won 11-7, 11-1 and 11-8 against Jamaali Homer on the tough night.
In the U-13 Boys Final, Jamaal Duff defeated Sunil Logan 3-2 with Stefan Corlette taking third place. Competition in the U-18 Boys competition reached the quarterfinals that will be played on Saturday. The Mashramani Championships resumes on Friday.
