…was held with grenade, transported killer, never charged
Police on the West Coast of Demerara have arrested a taxi driver, who was found in possession of an illegal .32 automatic pistol on Tuesday.
The man, who has had previous brushes with the law, was detained when his car was searched at a roadblock at Stewartville.
A police source said that the weapon was discovered wrapped in a white sock stashed under the front driver side seat.
The taxi driver told police that the weapon belonged to a passenger whom he had earlier dropped off.
However, he could not say who the passenger was or where he had dropped him off.
This newspaper understands that the same taxi driver was held with a grenade in his possession last year. He was also the driver of a car that is linked to a murder at Hague, West Coast Demerara. He reportedly transported the killer, having been hired by the dead woman’s spouse, and then removed the man from the scene.
For some reason, this man was never charged with any crime, much to the astonishment of the people who arrested him.
The source said that the man is expected to appear in court today.
