Simeon Hardy exited the ring in the 10th edition of the ProAm boxing card the unanimous victor after dishing out a licking to Troy Lewis. However, the celebrations were disrupted when the victorious boxer was transported to the Georgetown Hospital after complaining of severe pains in his hands. Checks by the medical experts revealed that he had suffered a fracture of the hand. The doctors treated the ailment and placed Hardy’s hand in a cast.
That wound is now healed and Hardy is ready to resume fistic duties when he opposes Clifton Barker in a welterweight encounter when the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) presents the 12 edition of the monthly ProAm boxing cards on Friday February 25 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).
The lanky fighter who operates out of the Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) boxing gym in Albouystown was brimming with confidence yesterday afternoon as he reiterated his intentions of disposing of Barker. He sparred 4 hectic rounds with Dexter Marques under the tutelage of one of his coaches, Joseph Murray, who undertook the training sessions alone in the absence of Sebert Blake who was on an out of town assignment.
Yes, Marques was the lighter boxer but Murray explained that his charge had only opened sparring sessions last Sunday and was concentrating on speed rather than power. The former fecarbox champion further intimated that Hardy would be stepping up training against much heavier fighters during the coming week.
Shortly after wrapping up sparring sessions Hardy attacked the bag with gusto and the grunts that emanated from his throat signaled his intention of carting off the glory in his upcoming bout. Hardy also shadow boxed a couple of rounds before engaging in a rigorous session with the rope. He closed off his sessions with calisthenics.
Several of the fighters scheduled to appear on the card were also hard at work including Rudolph Fraser who opted for a light session. He opposes Barbadian based Guyanese, Gardiel Robins.
The other fights on the card will see Barbadian Miquel Antoine up against Mark Austin while Mandessa Moses tackles Veronica Blackman in a light/heavyweight affair.
Austin spent all of the past weekend with his coach in Linden undergoing stiff sessions in the sandpits and the hills. He has returned to Georgetown to engage in sparring sessions.
This evening Kaieteur Sport would be visiting the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis Boxing Gym, Albouystown where he is training to assess his as well as the training sessions of the pugilists utilizing that facility.
