Minutes after leaving his best friend’s wedding on Monday night, 21-year-old Visham Seeram was killed on the spot when the minibus he was travelling in crashed into a utility pole at Pearl, East Bank Demerara.
Seeram, a welder, was sitting in the front seat and reportedly sustained multiple injuries after being hurled from the vehicle. A relative said that he was not wearing a seat belt.
The accident occurred a short distance away from Seeram’s Lot 5 Sarah Johanna home.
According to a police release, investigations revealed that at about 23:00 hours, the driver of minibus BMM 7803 was proceeding along the East Bank Demerara public road when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle and collided with a utility pole causing Seeram to receive injuries about his body. Seeram was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and pronounced dead on arrival. The minibus driver has been detained.
Seeram’s grandmother, Rita Dubar, told Kaieteur News that her grandson, who lived with her, had travelled to Timehri earlier in the day to attend his best friend’s wedding. He was returning home when the tragedy occurred. Ms. Dubar said that she was at home when a neighbour came to her gate to tell her that her grandson had been injured in an accident.
The woman said that she went to the scene and saw Seeram lying motionless on the roadway. According to Dubar, her grandson was already dead. She said that another passenger, who is a friend of Seeram’s sustained minor injuries.
Visham Seeram is survived by thee other siblings.
