Detective Corporal Ricardo Inniss was yesterday placed on $100,000 bail by Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, charged with rape.
The detective is accused of raping a 21-year-old prisoner at the Turkeyen Police Station last December.
The cop was represented by attorney at law Patrice Henry who successfully argued for his client to be granted his pre-trial liberty and from all indications the matter will be dealt with through paper committal, since the charge is indictable.
A week ago the Director of Public Prosecutions had advised that the rank be charged with rape.
The incident reportedly occurred when the woman was taken to the Turkeyen Police Station in December 2009 for alleged simple larceny.
Kaieteur News understands that although the matter was being investigated since last year, the cop was still on duty up to the day before he appeared in court.
He is to return to court on March 5.
