A taxi driver and a passenger were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital with gunshot wounds around 22:00 hrs last night after they were shot at 110th Street, Grove, East Bank Demerara.
Police said that the driver, identified as Horace Cupidore, 42, of Lot 18 Samatta Point, Grove, was shot in the leg.
The passenger, who was unidentified, was reportedly shot in the neck and leg.
According to police, Cupidore was dropping off the passenger when they were shot and robbed. However, a source said that the vehicle bore no visible bullet holes.
The wounded men were first treated at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre before being taken to the GPHC.
The vehicle was taken to the Grove Police Station. In the wake of the shooting ranks of the Guyana Defence Force and armed policemen scoured the area.
No one could say whether the gunmen happened to be waiting for a victim or whether they trailed the taxi to the location.
