A 15-year-old girl attempted suicide by jumping off the “Jimbo Bridge” about 13:45 hours, Friday.
The teen was seen in a pleasant mood until about 13:00 hours that day. Her class teacher recalled the child leaning and crying on her desk. This compelled the teacher to ask her what was the matter and the girl claimed that she was suffering from ‘belly pains’.
About 20 minutes later she was missing from her classroom and searches in and around the school compound were undertaken to locate her. Soon the school got news that a female student had jumped into a trench in the vicinity of Jimbo’s Bridge. People rescued her.
The reason for her actions, she stated, was because of her being molested by her stepfather when she was nine-years-old.
The girl was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where she was examined and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Female Medical Ward for observation.
According to their reports the girl lives with her cousin, while her mother lives in Trinidad and her father works in the interior.
