Some activities associated with the Children’s Mashramani 2011 celebration have already begun and plans are on stream for the others.
According to Desiree Wyles-Ogle of the Allied Arts Unit, Ministry of Education, already the regional competitions have started in some regions including Region Two.
According to Ms. Wyles-Ogle, the Ministry of Education has a packed programme for the nursery, primary and secondary schools. Some of these activities include exhibitions, tours, individual school concerts, the road parade and dance and masquerade, dramatic poetry, calypso, essay and costume competitions.
Meanwhile, the finals for the competition will be held from February 17 through February 19 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. According to Ms. Wyles-Ogle security for the venue has been reviewed and the Guyana Police Force has pledged its support.
She noted that added to the police force the Ministry will be having its internal security available at all events. On February 19 the Children’s Mashramani celebration will conclude with the children’s float parade which will take off from the Parade Ground and end at the National Park.
However while plans are on stream Wyles-Ogle is calling on business entities to be more supportive of the schools who are willing to participate in the competition but lack sponsorship.
“A lot of schools have indicated their willingness but their main concern is sponsorship, so we are asking businesses to sponsor a school in their area.”
Banks DIH has so far come forward and will be supporting the event as it has done for the past three years.
