A 42 year-old man from Parika has been remanded after being charged with incest of an 11-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl. The accused made an appearance yesterday at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin.
It is alleged that during December last year the man repeatedly sodomized the lad, and repeatedly had sexual intercourse with the girl. The court was told that the matter was brought to the attention of the police by neighbours.
The accused was not required to plead. He was remanded to prison and is scheduled to make his next appearance on February 28.
Meanwhile this newspaper was told that neighbours over a period of time would hear the lad crying out ‘Ouch daddy! Stop, it hurting’, and having suspected that something was wrong, the Child Protection Agency and the police were informed.
The children confided in persons that they were both being sexually molested. This newspaper was told that the lad was sodomized at least on four occasions while the girl was sexually assaulted numerous times. Medical examinations on both children have confirmed their stories.
Reports are that the children live alone with the man since their mother died sometime ago. A source said that the man kept the children silent after threatening them, saying if they ever told anyone he would kill them.
