-under-15 game completes triple-header
With the seemingly never ending confusion that is currently saturating local cricket, sporting fans must be longing for some reprieve and wondering where next to turn to for sports entertainment.
Well, they have that choice this afternoon when the Fruta Conquerors organized NaMilCo Football Festival is set to conclude with a triple-header at the Tucville ground.
Fans of the sport have been presented with a full platter of football over the past year and already this year is promising a packed agenda so those cricket fans who’re beginning to contemplate which sport to turn to as a replacement should look no further, but to the biggest sport of them all.
Starting at 16:00 hrs, Fruta Conquerors tackle Santos in an under -15 affair and that will be followed by the third place clash between Camptown and Fruta Conquerors from 18:00 hrs.
This match-up promises to produce sizzling action with both teams expected to be at full strength and in good form.
Camptown will have in their line-up the vastly experienced and inspirational Troy Prescod and company, while Conquerors, a team made up mostly of players below the age of 20 will look to the in-form Vurlon Mills and rising star Pernell Schultz to duplicate their recent performance in the Western Tigers Tournament to give them victory.
The feature contest between Guyana’s No.1 club Alpha United and Santos should see the former coasting to a win judging from their recent for.
Shavane Seaforth and Shawn Bishop are the leading goalscorers in the competition and combined with the lethal duo of Dwight Peters and Kester Jacobs, on paper it seems an almost impossible task for Santos to manufacture an upset.
However, Santos has been going through a transition and seems to be gelling nicely so betting fans are being cautioned not to eliminate their chances of scoring the upset.
They’ve already proven to be a very stubborn outfit and recent testimony could support this when they played to a stalemate against powerhouse Pele in regulation and overtime, before going down on penalty kicks.
Meanwhile, the sponsors have added some extra incentives for fans with ten NaMilCo hampers up for grabs, an addition of eight from the last time.
Among the additional sponsors are GT&T, Junior’s Jewellery on Robb Street, Bayridge Taxi Serive of Sherriff Street, Oasis Water Company, Banks DIH Ltd, Global Technology and 2J’s General Store of Regent Street.
