As more injury woes hit Guyana team
By Sean Devers
Test opener Sewnarine Chattergoon is the latest player in the Guyana team preparing for their first round Regional 4-day game against hosts Jamaica from next Friday to be pulled out of the 13-man squad due to injury.
Already without the Test pair of Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shiv Chanderpaul due to their World Cup commitments, the Guyanese, who last finished at the top of the points table in a regional First-Class competition in 1998, were hit by the withdrawal of Test left-hander Narsingh Deonarine who, in 2009, became the first person to score 1000 runs in a regional tournament.
Deonarine, who missed this month’s Caribbean t20 competition due to shoulder injury, was replaced this week by Vishaul Singh who played two games last year.
Yesterday, Chattergoon was replaced by former West Indies under-19 Captain Steven Jacobs who was a member of the T20 side. Chattergoon is suffering from a shin injury.
Meanwhile, the following players are selected to participate in a 2-day practice match today and tomorrow at Bourda. The match starts at 09:30hrs and players are asked to be at the ground for 08:00hrs.
Team ‘A’ Assad Fudadin (Captain), Rajendra Chandrika, Gajanand Singh, Leon Johnson, Vishaul Singh, Royston Crandon, Derwin Christian, Esuan Crandon, Zaheer Mohamed, Brendan Bess, Kwame Crosse, Trevon Griffith, Amir Khan, Krisandat Ramoo.
