A ten-year-old male student of Saraswat Primary School, De Willem South, West Coast Demerara, was on Sunday last, sexually molested by his 33-year-old male teacher who is now in police custody.
The child was subsequently hospitalized.
The lad, who lived alone, was observed by his teachers bearing numerous marks about the body which he later told investigators were love bite marks on his neck and chest inflicted by an amorous male teacher.
According to reports, the child’s mother left him and went into the interior some time ago to cook for porkknockers. His father cannot be located.
This newspaper understands that when the victim went to school the Monday, the day after the incident occurred his teachers observed numerous marks on his neck and immediately alerted the relevant authorities.
According to a medical inspection, the child’s anus has not been tampered with; however, he was in some way, medically affected and had to be hospitalized.
The teacher was detained and taken into custody at the Leonora Police Station where he remained up to yesterday.
The child, who is presently housed at a governmental institution in the city, is still to give a statement to the police and the ranks at the Leonora Police Station say that this is affecting the charge under the new Sexual Offences Act.
As the lad lived alone, a woman identified as Sherine Hollingsworth, occasionally assisted with the child’s welfare.
This newspaper understands that the teacher has been at Saraswat Primary since 1998 and was openly homosexual.
The headmaster of the school, Esau Dookie, disclosed that many reports were made against the accused but never in regard to corporal punishment.
The man said that the school has done “what we were supposed to do” and he commends the teachers for their vigilance.
According to Dookie, the child will most likely be counseled since it is done at the school from time to time.
Kaieteur News understands that, the child’s uncle is expected to take full custody of him.
