The new Artificial Football Field just laid at the Franklin Essed Stadium by the Suriname Football Association was funded by that Associations bonus received from the World Governing Body FIFA following the last World Cup.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport, Louis Gihus noted that he was very pleased with the new facility which will enhance the level of the game in Suriname and allows all their national teams including females to have access at anytime.
The Franklin Essed Stadium is part of the Association’s Goal Project which is also funded by FIFA and according to Gihus, the new field is FIFA Approved.
“We are very happy about this new surface which we know will help with the further development of the game in Suriname. It allows us more independency as our teams will be able to access this facility anytime.”
The fully lighted facility also includes a dormitory, two small size artificial surfaces for youths and veterans along with a normal full size football field.
A Dutch Company was responsible for laying the new field and it is one of six approved by FIFA to carry out such works.
The first Goal Project for the Surinamese Association was the Emile de La Fuente Sport Centre.
Their second Goal Project was the partial renovation of their other facility, the Andre Kamperveen Stadium which is equipped with a normal football field and has all the basic amenities.
The Association, Gishus said, will now be going after their Third Goal Project and that will be the renovation of the Dorms at the Franklin Essed Stadium along with the renovation of their main office which is located at the Andre Kamperveen Stadium.
“We have to build good facilities for the sport to grow and develop and that we are doing with the help of FIFA.”
