Dear Editor,
We can all recognise the unsympathetic truth that Guyana has by and large failed its young people in the last 18 years. Many of us as youths are largely disappointed and disenchanted with Guyana, with our future and with some political leaders.
We do not have the anticipation that the political and democratic processes will have any real impact on the issues and challenges that we face. The level of nationalism is low and many of us regard a ticket out of Guyana as our salvation for the achievement of the better life for which we justifiably and rightfully desire and deserve. If we as young people are to achieve real progress these issue must be urgently and frontally addressed.
It is therefore important that programmes be developed and policies be implemented to deal with the very troubling situation where we see large numbers of young of people unoccupied in most of villages and towns all across our country. These young people become vulnerable to the scourges of crime and violent behaviour. The needs and concerns of our young people must be immediately come to the forefront of the nation’s agenda.
The issues of employment, youth empowerment, and youth entrepreneurship which we as young people face must be addressed with a better education system, which does not endorse automatic promotion.
Education is the mainstay on which change is built. Any country’s economic and social development will be limited without a high-quality education system.
The Guyanese youths want to see innovative and comprehensive youth empower programmes across the country. These programmes should recreate the enthusiasm and excitement that existed in earlier times, when young people in various parts of the country took great pride in the community and were stimulated, mobilised, revolutionary and committed to the development of Guyana and themselves.
All of this can be done if the PNCR elected David Granger as their presidential candidate. David Granger is committed to create training and other supportive programmes, which will help and encourage self-sustaining employment generation for youths. Youths themselves will be actively involved and play a part in the type of employment or productive activities that they would like to be engaged in.
He is the man with the plan and vision. The PNCR has a glorious opportunity to win the next General and Regional Elections, but David Granger should be the presidential candidate.
David Granger stands for making Guyana a safe, happy and united country in which everyone could live and work without fear. He is committed to: education, employment, private enterprise, a stronger economic, equality and youth empowerment.
