The executive of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) has released the names of the eight boxers that will participate in this year’s inaugural ProAm boxing card at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) on January 28 next.
This group will join eight professional boxers in what is expected to be a night of fistic entertainment.
In the first bout, in the 80-84lbs category, Diwani Lampkin opposes Keron Thorne while in a middleweight bout Kelsie George tackles Alfred Benjamin. Ron Smith would next oppose David Walters also in the middleweight category. In the final amateur bout Ray Sandiford would match gloves with Stephon Gouveia in a junior/welterweight shindig.
Meanwhile, the eight professional boxers that will comprise the four bouts are already in training and have promised to put up sterling performances
Kurt Best, still on a high after defeating local heavyweight champion, Mitchell Rogers will be out to enforce his dominance in that division when he matches gloves with Anthony Augustin also in the heavyweight division.
Veronica Blackman and Pauline London will go after each other, also a women’s heavyweight clash and those that have witnessed these two in action in previous bouts know that they will be well entertained.
Winston Pompey is back after dropping a lopsided decision to Rawle Frank. He will seek redemption at the expense of Edmond DeClou, a mean Lindener who has made quite a name for himself against such fighters as Kwesi ‘Assassin’ Jones and quite recently, Joel McRae who he handed his first loss.
In the night’s opener, Mark Austin would resume his quest for honours when he comes up against Jermaine King. Gong time is 20:00hrs sharp.
