Soesdyke Sandpit fatal accident…
On July 30, last, 10-year-old Derrick Paul Deonarine left his home unknown to his parents for a swim at a nearby sandpit with friends. Little did he know that that would have been his last outing with his friends.
Some time later, news of Deonarine’s death rang through his home village, Soesdyke. To this day it is still not clear how the lad met his death. Some of the lad’s friends who were with him said that he was run over by the sand truck which was making its way into a sand pit.
However, there were reports that the lad was trying to jump onto the moving sand truck when he fell and met his death. All of the differing reports were nevertheless handed over to the police. Recently, Deonarine’s mother, Seeta Sumair, visited this publication and said that she wants justice.
According to Sumair, for the past five months she has been running back and forth to the Timehri Police Station for answers on her son’s matter. Sumari said that initially she was told that the matter would have to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for advice.
“They tell me de file gone to de DPP when I go back they tell me de DPP send back de file because it ain’t complete.”
The woman said that on a subsequent visit she was told that the rank dealing with the matter had been transferred and that someone else was looking into the matter. What is more bothering, the woman related, is the fact that ever since the incident she has not seen the driver of the truck that was involved in the accident.
“We know dis man. During the wake time this man ain’t even come around fuh offer nothing. We never see back this man.”
The woman said that she is hoping that justice would be served in her matter. She added that even if the DPP recommended that no charges be laid against the man the least the police could do is inform her of the decision as opposed to have her running back and forth to the station.
Deonarine was found lying across the trail leading to the Latchman sand pit, Soesdyke.
