The two University of Guyana students who were arrested late Thursday afternoon after igniting an explosive device on the Turkeyen Campus yesterday pleaded guilty to having in their possession explosives and throwing explosives. They were fined $40,000 each.
The two Mark Hussain and Romain Lee, who are both from the Faculty of Technology, pleaded guilty to the charges when they appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court..
The incident was very unsettling to those in the proximity, given that one day earlier a deadly grenade blast had occurred near Stabroek Market.
This newspaper was told that the two students were under the influence when the police arrived.
One of the students reportedly admitted to purchasing the firecracker at Lethem.
Kaieteur News understands that the police conducted searches of the men’s homes.
