Dear Editor,
There seems to be in government circles that the issues surroundings the hiring and firing of Dr. V. Persaud is over. In my eyes and those of the general public it is not so.
The general feeling is, that there ought to be a complete take down of those so involved in this debacle; this insult; this terrible embarrassment of our country, its laws and integrity. MP Gail Teixeira, I hear you loud and clear, Hon. Minister Manikchand, your take on this issue needed the same outburst as that Re: The Gopaul fiasco, whether you were right or wrong, with no punches pulled for anyone large or small.
Dr. Madan Rambarran should have been called upon to resign or fired. His alleged utterances were distasteful, unbecoming and rude, disrespectful to the women and children especially girls. The medical council surely displayed sympathy and this leaves a lot to be desired.
The Hon. Minister of Health coming on late like a No. 10 batsman, in an effort to save the team disgrace, took full responsibility (bowled for a duck). The teachers suffered at the hands of the Teaching Service Commission that did not give them a chance to be heard.
The Public Service Commission in a wild haste dismissed employees of the Ministry of Human Services. Where is the transparency? Where is the fair play? If people are to be disciplined and dismissed for non-performance, then the same yardstick must measure all workers. The Ministry of Health’s acceptance of blame in this respect is a cover up of convenience. Further I say not.
