Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo yesterday remanded Delroy James, called ‘Slant Eye’, 25, of Patrick Dam, Angoy’s Avenue when he appeared before her at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court charged with Murder. James is accused of murdering Sean Craig, 28, called ‘Pigman’ of 57 Stanleytown on Saturday January 1, last at Lot 45 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam.
It is alleged that Craig, a car washer, of 57 Stanleytown and Wade Mc Donald, 42, of 41 Scheme Stanleytown, who is also a car washer, were at the Mars Service Station and Variety Store at 45 Stanleytown.
Shortly after midnight James, while armed with a gun allegedly robbed businessman Michael Mars and his wife, Joan, of more than $500,000. During the episode Craig was shot in the chest while Mc Donald was gun butted and received a graze from the bullet in the head. A post mortem examination conducted by Dr Vivekanand Brijmohan at the New Amsterdam hospital on Tuesday showed that Craig died from shock and hemorrhage due to gunshot wound. The bullet pierced the man’s heart and Lungs.
James was released from jail last April after serving an eight-year sentence for armed robbery and for possession of arms and ammunition.
He was released early on good behaviour having been a boxer whilst being incarcerated.
On this charge, the man was arrested in the Angoy’s Avenue area on the same morning of the crime. Police got word of his hideout and swooped down on him.
Craig is survived by two brothers, his six-year-old child, his father who lives on the West Coast Berbice and his mother who resides overseas.
James will have to return to court on February 21. His matter has been transferred to New Amsterdam.
