The mother of 29-year-old Jermaine Jones, who was stabbed to death at Ruimzeight, West Coast Demerara, almost a month ago, is pleading with the police to ensure justice is served.
Joylyn Simpson recently visited this publication and related that on more than one occasion information was passed to the police about the suspect’s whereabouts, but to date no arrest has been made.
“A lil while after my son funeral we hear that de boy deh by he girlfriend house in Little Diamond and we call the police and all they tell we is that they know weh de house deh and that was it.”
Mrs. Simpson opined that concerted efforts are not being made to capture her son’s killer. She claims that even before her son was buried she was not getting cooperation from the police. The woman related that on the day of her son’s funeral the procession was delayed for several hours since the police told her that a rank should be present at the burial.
“On the day of the post mortem, the police told me that I must call them the day when we ready to bury Jermaine, we called them, but we had to wait for three hours before we could move Jermaine from the parlour.”
According to Simpson all she wants is justice.
“Vengeance is not mine, there is a God and I have been praying. I am just hoping that he (the murder suspect) doesn’t walk free and do it to somebody else’s child,”.
On November 30, last, Jermaine Jones was stabbed to death, allegedly by a close relative of his reputed wife. This newspaper was told that Jones had intervened in a family dispute and was attempting to subdue a man who was wanted by the police. It was during that attempt that Jones was fatally wounded. He was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
