A local insurance executive is loud in his praise for ranks of a police mobile unit in the city who responded promptly and recovered his briefcase that was snatched by a thief around 9:00 hours last night.
The thief, who gave his name as Rodwell Leon, 33 of Sister’s Village, West Bank Demerara, was shot in his right leg just above the knee by a rank of the patrol unit as he fled along Robb Street.
He is now a patient under guard at the Georgetown Hospital where he was taken for medical attention.
Reports stated that Peter Abdool, of Abdool and Abdool Insurance Company on Avenue of the Republic had just emerged from his office when Leon snatched his briefcase containing cash and other valuables before bolting east along Robb Street.
Abdool, a licenced firearm holder, discharged a few rounds at the thief but missed its target.
However, the commotion attracted a passing mobile patrol unit, which responded and brought down the thief with a single shot.
The briefcase was recovered and the thief was taken to the hospital where he was admitted.
