– no ransom paid
Kidnapped shipping employee, Gail Perreira, was released unharmed by her captors yesterday, reportedly without a ransom being paid.
A police statement said that the 29-year-old woman was released around 01:30hrs in Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.
“She was unharmed and no ransom was reportedly paid,” the release said.
“It has been reported that Gail Perreira’s face was covered after her abduction and she was taken to an unidentified location from where she was released today and found herself in the Mon Repos area.
“From there she made her way to her relatives’ home at South Ruimveldt.”
Meanwhile, police sources said that they have detained a number of persons in connection with the woman’s abduction.
Among those being questioned is a man who was also a suspect in the murder of bank employee, Sheema Mangar. Perreira, of Evan Phillips Park, Agricola, was kidnapped outside of her home on Thursday night by three men in a black vehicle while sitting in a taxi.
The kidnappers contacted relatives and demanded $20 million for her safe return, but subsequently asked for $10 million. She was allowed to speak with relatives and had indicated that she was unharmed while urging them to pay the ransom.
