Dear Editor,
Regarding “Gunmen flee empty-handed after shooting shop owner” (KN Dec 14), the holiday season is a time when bandits, choke and robs, and pickpockets are more actively plying their profession. Thus, the business community and people in general need to be on guard and cognizant of their surroundings.
Surveillance cameras in business areas are highly recommended. Government needs to set up more cameras around the city and in busy areas outside the city, especially where businesses operate.
In Richmond Hill, several businessmen were robbed and a few fatally shot over the years by bandits from outside the community. They target Richmond Hill because they find the business owners to be easy targets.
Businesses began putting up cameras inside their stores and around their premises. The police also put up street cameras at several locations around the community and business robberies are down with bandits now prowling around homes.
Every day, thugs are targeting businesses in Guyana. Hard working people are losing their earnings. There is need for a more active police presence around business areas and the establishment of street cameras to combat crime. The government has to crack down on these thugs.
