Two more remanded for murder, ‘terror attacks’

Two more persons who are reportedly part of the “Terror Gang” yesterday appeared before Magistrate Priya Beharry to answer to charges of murder, attempted murder and discharging loaded firearm.
The men, Basil Morgan and Anthony Watson, were not required to plead to any of the charges that were read to them by the Magistrate.
It was alleged that the two men on November 4, 2009, with the intent to murder, discharged a loaded firearm at Constable Carl Marks.
Another charge stated that the two men, on the same day, with the intent to murder, discharged a loaded firearm at Clayton Westford, who is charged with setting fire to Ministry of Health building last year.
Thirdly, the duo was charged with duct-taping the mouth of Shawn Embelton with the intent to murder him.
Another charge alleges that between November 3 and November 4 on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, the two murdered Wodette Roberts.
At this point, when the murder charge was read, Morgan slumped over the prison’s dock.
It was further alleged that between November 3 and November 4, they duct taped the mouth of Roopchand Gopaul with the intent to murder.
It was alleged that between November 3 and November 4, 2009 with the intent to murder they discharged a loaded firearm at Dramintra Indrapaul and Rajendra Singh.
The duo was also accused of setting fire to the Supreme Court building on November 4, 2009.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford asked for the matters to be transferred to the respective courts.
That application was granted by the Magistrate. The men are expected to appear before a Providence magistrate on January 5, before a city magistrate on January 15 and again on January 16, before a magistrate at Christianburg.
Last week, Colin Jones, his brother Jahfar Simpson and Randy Mars, were all slapped with multiple charges ranging from murder to attempted murder to discharging loaded firearm to cultivating cannabis.
And contrary to earlier reports, Mars was never an employee of the Guyana Rice Development Board.
Jones reportedly confessed to recently killing two of his accomplices, Kurt Thierens and Adriano Tracey.
Alleged self-confessed killer Colin Jones is also accused of escaping from lawful custody at the Providence Police Lockups on July 27, 2009, pending a criminal matter.
Policewoman Diane Chichester was charged with facilitating Jones’s escape from the lockups last year.
Jones pleaded guilty to a number of summary charges and was sentenced to eight years imprisonment.
Linden residents Ulele McQuede and Deon Thompson have already been charged with knowingly harbouring the wanted men.
