Dear Editor,
I find it regrettable what was done to Dr. Persaud. The Minister of Human Affairs was unjust and impulsive in her thoughts and actions. I even question if said Minister is keen in psychology or even psychiatry to at least understand this unfortunate occurrence.
Her conclusions and comments suggested to me that she doubts the success of Rehabilitation and even Psychotherapy used for decades in such cases.
My questions to the Minister of Human Affairs are: Do you think we should just close all the Rehabilitation centres in the world? Do you think the world is just wasting billions of dollars in having people rehabilitated?
The above said doctor is an Internal Medicine Specialist and as such he works with patients above age 12, so why your great fear of his interactions with children? Is this how we manage human resources? My god, no wonder we have so many so called “insane” persons wandering the streets of Georgetown!
Can you entertain the modern and civilized thought for a few moments in your mind that every citizen can be given a role in society?
Yes of course! If a patient has an obsessive syndrome and he is as such obsessed with manipulating papers then in modern society he is given a job in a paper factory to probably package papers. Is this clear to you?
So if you have excellent brain power such as Dr. Persaud, then you should think of how you can incorporate such persons into the system instead of dumping useful human resource in the bin; if you are so paranoid about his actions then you probably should put him to work under probation for some time and if you are satisfied at the end of the probation then let this brother of our soil be fully incorporated into our society, his homeland, our homeland.
Everyone must understand that man is a Bio psycho social being and as such can become sick in any of these dimensions at any phase of his life, once man has received treatment and medically is given clearance from his physician/therapist then he can once more continue being part of the much needed human resource of the country.
One more thing, do emancipate yourself from this mental slavery that I infer from you. We are a free an independent nation and as such we don’t need to depend on the USA for any decision making.
I believe that injustice was done to this Guyanese brother in that land yet you here will take their word as gospel and destroy a much needed being in our country.
At this time I ask of you to reflect and reconsider.
