Guyana’s United States of America-based table tennis players, twins, Brad and Brandon Belle played their way into form after a slow start last weekend to top the Men’s Under-21 category in the ongoing National Table Tennis Championships.
In the final round of the competition, Brad Belle defeated Joel Alleyne 11-9, 4-11, 11-9 and 11-5 while Brandon Belle dropped his only game in the playoff to Nigel Bryan 11-5, 7-11, 9-11 and 3-11 before the final placing were announced yesterday.
Alleyne had beaten Bryan 11-8, 6-11, 7-11, 13-11 and 11-9 before Brandon Belle hammered the U-18 Men’s Singles Champion, Bryan 11-7, 11-8 and 11-8 in the second round of the event that used the round-robin format to establish the final placement.
Brandon also defeated Alleyne 9-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-8 and 11-9 on his way to winning his first national title in Guyana. His brother, Brad placed second while Alleyne finished third as Bryan had a disappointing outing in the U-21 championship.
