The four men who were beaten on Thursday night last by Parika residents, up to press time yesterday, were still in police custody. This newspaper was told that the men are expected to appear in court some time on Monday.
Currently the men are being held at different lock-ups on the West Demerara.
On Thursday night last, two men were allegedly beaten by residents of Parika after they were caught attempting to remove parts from a vehicle. The two were first handed over to the police. Their two accomplices were nabbed in a white wagon in the Parika Old Road after police were informed of their activities.
Over the past few weeks, persons on the West Demerara were being plagued by a gang which was removing parts from heavy duty vehicles in the area. The most recent was a businessman of St Lawrence whose vehicle was relieved of several expensive parts.
That matter has since been reported and is being investigated. Another man from Crane on the West Coast Demerara, was spared after he was awakened by a loud noise in front of his home. Upon checking he noticed a white wagon speeding off from near his parked truck. Further checks revealed that several parts from the truck were already removed.
