Dear Editor,
Recently I heard a televised discourse that stressed the decreasing levels of our available fresh water reservoirs, over time that could be very worrying.
So here is a suggestion: The salt water from the Atlantic flows into our creeks, namely the Mahaica, Mahaicony and Abary. Putting gates or (sluices) at points where the creeks discharge into the Atlantic, we will prevent the salt water from contaminating the water from those creeks and thereby rendering the creeks reservoirs of fresh water that can be treated and piped.
When it rains heavily and water level in the creeks rises, the gates are opened during the Atlantic low tide and the excess water flows out into the Atlantic.
So there you have it, dyke the creeks. The farmers in the area will be happy because they will produce better products and those areas will help to boost the food basket of the Caribbean.
