Mon Repos butcher, Nazim Ali, is still counting his losses after bandits tied him up and relieved him of his car and a significant amount of cash during a raid on his home around 21:15 hours on Tuesday.
However, at least he recovered his car, which was abandoned by the bandits after they had made good their escape.
This newspaper learnt that Ali was asleep in a chair in his Mon Repos South, East Coast Demerara home and opened his eyes only to be greeted by a man with a gun standing over him.
The startled man screamed but the man dealt him several lashes to his head and other parts of his body with the gun.
With the help of two accomplices, the bandits tied up Ali’s hand and feet with tape and then dragged him into a bedroom where they managed to steal jewellery worth $180,000 and $87,000 in cash.
The men then demanded the keys to Ali’s Toyota Raum motor car which they used to escape.
The vehicle was later recovered intact by the police.
