The two men police apprehended last Thursday for the theft of an outboard engine have each been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty.
Wellon James and Frederick Alexander Lyght were jointly charged for larceny of an engine. Lyght received an additional charge for the possession of ganja.
It was alleged that Lyght had in his possession, 26 grams of ganja on November 25, last at Dredge Creek.
Both men pleaded guilty to the charge of larceny, while Lyght entered a not guilty plea to the charge of the possession of ganja. They were unrepresented.
According to a police report, the men stole a 150 horsepower outboard engine belonging to Andre Raghubir, on November 25, last, at Dredge Greek in the Lower Pomeroon. Police said they were alerted to a drifting boat in the Dredge Creek area on November 26, last, by persons in the area and subsequently ventured into the River to conduct investigations.
James and Lyght, who both were hiding in a house at Dredge Creek, upon noticing police officers in the area, reportedly threw a bag containing ganja, through a window.
Both men were subsequently arrested after the engine was also discovered in the house.
